ArtiTeq Newly R40 Rail at a glance
ArtiTeq Newly R40 Rail is a compact ceiling-fixed picture rail for projects where wall mounting is not suitable, or where you want a cleaner architectural finish. It mounts flush to the ceiling with dedicated clips and is ideal where walls are inaccessible, unsuitable for fixing, or made from glass.
Because the R40 fixes to the ceiling, it is also well suited to open ceiling areas, shop windows, retail displays, galleries and commercial interiors where the hanging point needs to come from above rather than from the wall.

Installation + FAQs
Installation information
Ceiling installation
The Newly R40 Rail fixes directly to the ceiling using dedicated R40 clips. The clips are installed first, and the rail then clips into position.
For one 200 cm rail, allow:
- 6 x R40 clips
- 6 x suitable screws
- 6 x suitable plugs
The R40 system uses approximately 3 clips per metre.
What’s included
Each ArtiTeq Newly R40 Rail White – 200 cm includes:
- 1 x Newly R40 Rail white, 200 cm
- 6 x R40 clips
- 6 x suitable screws
- 6 x suitable plugs
End caps are sold separately.
End caps
Add end caps where the open ends of the rail will be visible.
You may need:
- 1 end cap if only one end of the rail is visible
- 2 end caps if both ends are visible
- extra end caps if the rail is cut into shorter sections
Recommended add-on: Newly R40 End Cap White – $1.95 inc GST each.
Ceiling structure matters
Before installing, check that the ceiling structure is suitable for the intended load. The R40 rail is rated to 20 kg per metre, but the actual safe load depends on correct installation, the ceiling substrate and the fixing method used.
The installer is responsible for assessing the surface, construction and fixing method before installation. Ceiling installations are all about gravity, and gravity is famously not interested in excuses.
Why would I choose the Newly R40 Rail?
Choose the Newly R40 Rail when you need a ceiling-fixed picture rail that is compact, discreet and suitable for more architectural or display-focused spaces.
It is especially useful where:
- the wall is made from glass
- the wall is inaccessible
- the wall surface is not suitable for fixing
- you need to hang from an open ceiling area
- you are working with shop windows or retail displays
- you want artwork or signage suspended from above
- you want the rail to be visually quiet
- you need flexible hanging without repeatedly drilling into walls
The R40 is not about carrying more weight than Top Rail. Both systems are rated to 20 kg per metre. Its advantage is its compact profile, ceiling clip system and discreet finish.
In plain English: Top Rail is the economical ceiling rail. Newly R40 Rail is the more discreet ceiling rail.

Which hanging wires and hooks should I choose?
1. Choose your hanging wire style
The Newly R40 Rail works with compatible ArtiTeq / Newly Twister perlon or steel cables, rods and hooks.
- perlon: minimal and almost invisible, best when you want the artwork to appear to float.
- steel: crisp, architectural and durable, especially useful in commercial spaces or where the hanging system is handled often.
- rods: useful where a more rigid hanging line is preferred.
2. Match the hook to the wire and artwork weight
Always match the hook to the wire diameter and artwork weight. The hanging system is only as strong as the rail, the ceiling fixing, the wire and the hook working together.
For lighter pieces, a smaller hook and perlon wire may be enough. For heavier works or public spaces, choose stronger compatible hooks and consider steel wire.
3. Use two wires for stability
For most framed artworks, use two hanging wires and two hooks.
Two droppers give you:
- better stability
- easier levelling
- less sway
- a cleaner gallery look
- better load distribution within the rail limits
Important reality check: even if a hook can carry a lot, the Newly R40 Rail is still a 20 kg/m ceiling rail, so installation and load distribution matter.
