Why choose a ceiling-fixed rail?
A Top Rail protects rendered or heritage brick walls, keeps gallery layouts flexible and is the only option when rendered bricks, glass, concrete, wall tiles or services cover the entire wall.
Installation information
Gyprock / drywall ceilings
- Gyprock alone is not strong enough to hold the picture rail securely. Instead, you need to screw into the structural elements behind the Gyprock that hold up the ceiling.
- The slim profile of the top rail and lip only allows for a 6-gauge (3.5mm) screw. This is the largest size you can use to ensure proper attachment when drilling into the ceiling.
- Find structure: locate joists or metal top-hat sections.
- Mark & drill: transfer those points to the rail, drill Ø 3.5 mm fixing holes.
- Screw-off: use 6-gauge timber screws into solid timber, or hollow-wall anchors where voids exist (3 screws per metre).
Metal ceiling structures
- For thin steel use 3.5 mm self-tappers.
- For heavy gauge channel use machine screws + nuts (access both sides required).
Concrete ceilings
- Pre-drill Ø 5 mm and use sleeve anchors, or
- Tap 3.5 mm concrete screws (Hang Logic Top Rail concrete kit).
Tiled ceilings
- Plastic anchors in grout for light loads.
- Sleeve anchors for heavier loads – drill slowly to prevent cracking.
Reminder: The rail’s 6-gauge screw limit keeps the profile sleek; don’t oversize fixings.
